I'm happy to share two of my quilts for this years «blogger's quilt festival»; I participated last year and it was a lot of fun.
I chose to enter my «compass» quilt into the modern category.
When I first laid eyes on the compass-quilt from Denyse Schmidts book (Modern Quilts, Traditional Inspiration) I knew I'd some day make this quilt. But all those spikes were daunting so I started planning a) a smaller version and b) a paper-pieced version of her beautiful pattern. My version is modified; I redrew all the arcs to be able to assemble the top in quarters; my spikes are a little different than the ones in the book.
The fabrics I used come from different sources: Kona Curry and Coral, Riley Blake Neon Yellow plus a bedsheet I never used for the background. Also for the backing, I only used what I had on hand.
The crosshatch quilting turned out nicely and was relatively quick to do.
All in all I'm quite fond of this quilt and am still waiting to find a perfect home for it.
